अँधियारों के यार उजाले

अँधियारों के यार उजाले |
हैं कितने मक्कार उजाले |

बार बार आँखें चुंधिया कर
खो जाते हुशियार उजाले |

चौबारों छज्जों पर बैठे
करते हैं सिंगार उजाले |

'होरी' की झुग्गी में झांके *
इतने कहाँ उदार उजाले |

कल थोडा सकुचा कर करते
काले कारोबार उजाले |

बीच सड़क में लगा रहे हैं
आज 'मुक्त बाज़ार' उजाले |

जो जलते हैं वे पाते हैं
मिलते नहीं उधार उजाले |

हम नादाँ थे तुमसे मांगे
ए मेरी सरकार! उजाले |

then they hide away, these clever lights |

on terrace, verandah and roof-tops
they makeup and show off, these lights |

to peek in Hori's hut
not so merciful, are these lights |

yesterday these lights, had some, hesitation
in doing black market |

today right in the middle of the road
markets 'open' by lights |

those who burn (sacrifice) will get it
you dont get for rent, these lights |

i must be naive, that i am asking you
some light, o my govt!
